The San Felipe Pueblo Waste Water Treatment Plant (WWTP) was built in 2008. Souder Miller and Associates (SMA) took over the operation of the plant in January 2017. The WWTP is managed through a SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) system that dates back to the 1990’s and is in need of an upgrade of the system, using principles from the latest developments in the field of the Internet of Things (IoT).

The team’s main research question is: “Does the replacement of controls from a serial interface to a digital connection bring extra value from both Operations and Maintenance perspective to the overall operations of the WWTP?”
